Three vetoes. Zero alternatives. Arizonans deserve more than obstruction — they deserve answers.
↓After vetoing over a billion dollars in tax conformity relief twice this year, Governor Katie Hobbs has now vetoed a state budget that also would have provided the certainty and relief Arizonans deserve. That's three separate opportunities, and three separate vetoes. At every turn, she has had the opportunity to act. At every turn, she has refused, walked away, or simply said no. Arizonans deserve answers: if not this budget, then what? Where is her plan?
This started when President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill was signed into law delivering significant tax relief to American workers. Arizona's tax code needed to be conformed to reflect those changes so taxpayers would have certainty when they file. Governor Hobbs refused to even call a special session to get it done. That was her first failure.
In January, the Legislature passed a comprehensive conformity package tailored specifically to Arizona's tax code. It would have eliminated taxes on tips and overtime pay, increased the standard deduction and child tax credit, created a new deduction for childcare expenses, allowed Arizona seniors to deduct distributions from their 401ks, IRAs, and pensions, and let working Arizonans deduct contributions to their Roth IRAs. It was a serious, substantive bill that delivered real relief to real families. Hobbs vetoed it. Then in February, she vetoed another conformity bill. Then she walked away from budget negotiations entirely — creating the chaos and then refusing to clean up her mess.
Lawmakers did their job anyway. They drafted a budget. They made it public. They had the votes. Legislative Democrats voted No. Hobbs vetoed. Now it is their turn to show Arizonans what they actually support. She cannot continue to veto, walk away, and negotiate behind closed doors without being held accountable. Will she cut tax conformity relief to fund her spending projects? Will Arizonans have to refile their taxes and send back their tax cuts? It is unacceptable to negotiate that behind closed doors. She must show us her plan publicly.
Contact Governor Hobbs today and demand she stop the games and show the public her budget plan.
Governor Hobbs cannot keep vetoing, walking away, and negotiating in the shadows without accountability. It's time she shows Arizonans exactly what she supports.
